Our paper ‘ Surface tension driven flow of blood in a rectangular microfluidic channel: Effect of erythrocyte aggregation‘ with our collaborators in CUT (Kaliviotis, Cyprus University of Technology) selected as Editors pick in Physics of Fluids.Ĭongratulations to Tom for securing an academic position in IMT Lille Douai. Good luck to Andrea in his new Postdoc poistion in the Biorheology Lab, CUT Cyprus, starting this month.Ĭongratulations to Shigang for passing his viva for his PhD on ‘ High-speed Microscale Flows Across Obstacles For Enhanced Mixing‘ without corrections! Well done Dr Zhang! Another research superstar! Well done Dr Franzetti! We are joined by three new PhD students this academic year: Theofilos Boulafentis, funded by the DTP programme on Fundamental Engineering and researching into Elastoinertia Turbulence Louis Giraldin, working on our Virtuoso project modelling Aortic dissection and Federica Ninno, who joined the i 4Health CDT to work on peripheral arteriar disease and machine learning. Welcome to the group!Ĭongratulations to Gaia for succesfully defending her thesis entitled ‘ In vitro Tools for the Personalised Haemodynamic Assessment of Aortic Dissection‘ today (8 July 2020). Two more Drs from the group this year. Also congratulations to Anastasia for joining GSK and good luck to both! Microscale blood flows’ (25 September 2020 ) and Anastasia’s ‘ Particle suspensions in complex formulations‘ (16 November 2020). Andreas thesis was entitled ‘ The effect of red blood cell deformability on You will be missed!Ĭongratulations to Andrea and Anastasia for succesfully defending their theses this autumn.

It is the end of 2020 and this month we are saying goodbye to Mirko and Gaia who are both moving to R&D and consultancy positions in Oxford Heartbeat and Executive Insights respectivly.

Menqui is a visiting researcher from Beijing Institute of Technology who will be with us for a year to work on microdroplets and encapsulation. Welcome to the group! Amin will work on the Virtuoso project developing in silico tools for Aortic Dissection. James will continue our work on the complex formulation project CORAL, applying AFM techniques to probe interparticle intercations. This month we are joined by Drs James Sweeney and Amin Deyranlou as well as Menqui Li. Our new JFM paper on Shear-thinning mediation of elasto-inertial Taylor–Couette flow is now out.

Details on the workshop and how to book can be found in: We are brining together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss challenges and applications of complex fluids. Join our (virtual) workshop on Complex Fluids in Manufacturing organised in collaboration with the British Society of Rheology, as part of the dissemination plan for our EPSRC Formulation grant CORAL ( Complex ORAL health products: Characterisation, modelling and manufacturing challenges).
